The staff at Peter
Pan work together to ensure that whatever the child’s
difficulties, they begin his or her nursery life securely
and safely in a warm environment which encourages independence,
enabling them to be a participant in life rather than just
an observer.
Each child is assigned
a key-worker who monitors the progress of the child and
sets new targets according to the child’s needs.
Where necessary, staff work with children on a one-to-one
basis ensuring they get the support that they require.
Staff work for short
periods of time, being sensitive to how much the children
are able to tolerate and encouraging eye contact and listening
skills. Lots of praise, reinforcement and chatter between
the child and their key worker helps to aid their learning
and build up a relationship which helps them to feel safe
and secure.
The
nursery also works in liaison with relevant professionals
and agencies outside the group to meet children's specific
needs. Various professionals visit the nursery so that
observations of the children can be made outside of a clinical
setting. Physio and Speech therapists work regularly at
Peter Pan.
